(ExSports News Suwon, Korea) KT Wiz infielder Lee Ho-yeon has been ruled out for the time being due to an injury sustained during a game.
KT added infielder Oh Yeon-seok to the first team roster ahead of the 12th game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League against the Lotte Giants at KT Wiz Park in Suwon on April 22. Lee Ho-yeon, who was injured the day before, was removed.
KT said, “Lee Ho-yeon was diagnosed with a 메이저사이트 fractured left nasal bone after a medical examination. It is expected that he will need about a month to return,” KT said in a statement.
Lee was acquired from Lotte in a one-for-one trade for KT pitcher Shim Jae-min on March 19. As soon as he donned the KT uniform, he was given full playing time by the coaching staff and earned the starting second base job. In 25 games this season, Lee batted .286 (22-for-77) with one home run and 10 RBIs, adding depth to the KT infield that was lacking.
Coincidentally, KT, which was in last place, rebounded after the signing of Lee. From the 20th of last month to the 21st of this month, when Lee started playing for KT, the team went 17-10 in 27 games. This was the second-best winning percentage among the 10 teams in the league.
KT head coach Lee Kang-cheol was heartbroken by Lee’s injury. “The day before, Lee Ho-yeon felt really sick even when I was in the dugout,” he said, adding, “I was using him well as a left-handed hitter, but it’s disappointing in many ways.”
“Fortunately, it doesn’t require surgery, but we have to keep checking it. They say that if it goes well, I can start playing after a week of recovery, but I’m going to rest for about three days and then see how it goes.”
For the time being, Lee Ho-yeon’s place will be filled by Park Kyung-soo, who was called up from the second team, and Oh Yoon-seok. Oh Yoon-seok was acquired in a trade from Lotte in the 2021 season and has been an integral part of KT’s infield.
Meanwhile, KT went with a starting lineup of Kim Sang-soo (shortstop), Kim Min-hyuk (left field), Alford (designated hitter), Park Byung-ho (first base), Hwang Jae-gyun (third base), Kang Hyun-woo (catcher), Park Kyung-soo (second base), Bae Jeong-dae (center field), and Ahn Chi-young (right field). They will start ace Wes Benjamin on the mound as they look to complete a midweek three-game sweep.
